Gervonta Criticizes Haney's Father

The boxing community reacted to Ryan Garcia's (25-1, 20 KOs) victory over the WBC super lightweight champion (up to 63.5 kg) Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).

Gervonta Davis (29-0, 27 KOs) took a swipe at Devin's father, Bill Haney, who had hoped for a fight between his son and "Tank": "Forget about Devin... Where’s Bill, where's the dirt!!! That's what happens when you fight someone the same size as you."

Blogger and boxer Jake Paul was thrilled about the fight: "What an amazing fight, and so unexpected that it seriously took my breath away. Both are warriors and savages. Never underestimate anyone."

Former undisputed champion Mike Tyson was also pleased with the match and commented on the idea of a possible rematch: "Great fight. A rematch? Absolutely, there should be a rematch. Great performance by Ryan. Devin deserves another chance. It’s not the end for him, he will be champion again. They need to fight each other again."

Former champion Manny Pacquiao wrote: "Ryan Garcia is here to shock the world."

WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (21-0, 10 KOs) also chimed in and challenged Garcia: "Big respect to Ryan Garcia. I keep my word and give you respect, now keep yours, and let's do this. My man, great performance."

Former super lightweight world champion Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) shared that his wife won a tidy sum betting on Garcia's victory: "I thought Haney had won, but I don’t bet. My wife said Garcia would win. She bet on Garcia to win in rounds 9-12 and hit the jackpot. She always makes the right choice."

Former world champion Keith Thurman urged another fight: "When Bill Haney said last year that his son was ready to fight on PPV in welterweight, I told him Devin would be damaged there. Today he was punished in super lightweight. Congrats to Ryan. Haney has no survival skills, no adjustments. He had time to regroup. Tonight wasn’t his night. This wasn’t the fight of the year, as the commentators tried to hype it. Ryan, give him a rematch. These pillow fists can’t shake you. Easy money."

Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion, as Ryan did not meet the weight requirements and was ineligible for the title.
