Henry Garcia, the father of American super lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) Ryan Garcia (25-1, 20 KOs), commented on the dissatisfaction expressed by WBC champion Devin Haney regarding Ryan not making weight before their fight.
"They'll come up with this excuse: 'Well, Ryan was 1.4 kilograms heavier.' You need to move past that. Devin was 7 kilograms heavier than Ryan in the ring. So what now?
Don't come out with that excuse. The bottom line is, he got beaten up. We knew he would be beaten. The reason Devin became the undisputed world champion and got everything else is because he got there first," said Henry.
On April 21st, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs). Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion since Ryan did not make the weight limit and was not eligible for the title.
