Top promoters weighed in on the potential heavyweight clash between British former champions Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) and Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs).
Both fighters suffered defeats in their most recent title bouts—Joshua was knocked out by IBF champion Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) in September, while Fury lost twice over the past year to two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs).
Bob Arum, founder of Top Rank and co-promoter of Fury, expressed that the fight should take place in the UK.
"This fight should happen in the UK, at Wembley Stadium. That’s where it belongs. Taking such major fights outside the local audience hurts the sport and reduces the intensity it brings. Wembley is the obvious choice," said Arum.
Joshua’s promoter and Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn agreed that a Fury vs. Joshua bout would fill Wembley Stadium instantly.
"It would be an instant sellout. It’s undoubtedly the only fight for Tyson Fury, and aside from a rematch with Dubois, it’s obviously the only fight for AJ. But given Fury’s recent losses and how frustrated he must be, I don’t think now is the best time to call him out for a fight," Hearn commented.
