Fury Hopes Wilder Retires, Malik Scott Responds

Former unified heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has expressed that he thinks it might be time for his former opponent, American Deontay Wilder, to consider hanging up his gloves.

"Honestly, I’d like to see poor, old Deontay step away from boxing. He lost to me in three fights" (in fact, there was a draw and two Fury victories – ed.). "In those battles, we took years off each other's lives.

We went to war, ending with a brutal knockout in the 11th round. It’s hard to fully recover from fights like those. Our trilogy had 10 knockdowns. That takes a lot out of a fighter. Even when he came back and fought Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, we only saw a shadow of him," Fury remarked.

Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, responded to those questioning Wilder's return.

"Just hush up and enjoy the show. If you really want someone to retire, don’t turn on the screen when they fight. Don’t spend your hard-earned money and don’t go to the fight.

You could say it’s just the hypocrisy of boxing fans. I get that. I understand fans, fighters, managers, and promoters. We all have our perspectives, but respect the fighters," Scott stated.

Deontay Wilder has lost four of his last five bouts. His last victory was in 2022, when he knocked out Robert Helenius.
