In an interview with ProBox TV, American super welterweight (up to 69.85 kg) Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) commented on his upcoming fight against WBO champion Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs).
"My promoter called us and said that the guy (Thurman) got injured: 'If you want to save the card, you have a chance.' Of course, my first reaction was 'yes.'
I was supposed to fight for the vacant WBC belt, but if I can also fight for the WBO – it's a big fight, I consider Tszyu the best in super welterweight. So if I can take that spot – I will definitely do it.
We definitely wanted this. We trained for a tough fight, this is another tough fight, but you know, the time has come. I think it's time to become a world champion," said Fundora.
Yesterday, March 18th, it was announced that the fight for the WBO world championship in super welterweight between Tim Tszyu and Keith Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) was canceled due to an injury to the American.
Sebastian Fundora will replace him, who was originally scheduled to fight Ukrainian Serhii Bohachuk (23-1, 23 KOs) for the vacant WBC super welterweight title in the undercard.
Instead of Fundora, Bogachuk will face American Bryan Mendoza (22-3, 16 KOs) for the "interim" WBC title on March 30th in Las Vegas, USA.
