The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has officially ordered a title defense for American Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs), the WBO World Champion in the junior middleweight division (up to 69.85 kg). He must face Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs).
Crawford, who holds the WBA title in the same division, earned his title in a debut bout at junior middleweight against Israil Madrimov. Fundora had previously planned to fight Errol Spence, which led the WBO to consider stripping him of his title. The WBO had already reserved a mandatory bout for Crawford, who was the WBO super champion in welterweight and had the right to challenge for the title in the next division immediately.
Fundora and Crawford have 30 days to negotiate the terms of their bout. If they fail to reach an agreement, the WBO will call for a purse bid. Additionally, Sebastian Fundora is also the WBC Champion in the junior middleweight division.
