Former champion and current boxing expert Carl Froch commented on Ryan Garcia's (25-1, 20 KOs) victory over WBC super lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).
"Garcia used a left hook – 'boom' to Haney's chin. Devin didn't know what was happening, he didn't know where to go or what to do. He was bending over, trying to save himself, but perhaps Devin isn't the fighter we thought he was.
Perhaps in the super lightweight division, an advantage of three pounds (about 1.36 kg), or maybe even more during the fight, had an effect. I don't think Ryan Garcia looked like a middleweight, as Eddie Hearn hinted, but during the fight, he looked bigger.
But those were the rules, Ryan paid his fine for being three pounds heavier, then he went into the ring and beat Devin. So no one can complain," Froch said.
On April 21st, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney. Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion, as Ryan did not make the weight limit and was not eligible for the title.
