Former British world champion Carl Froch has stated that the money invested by Saudi Arabian boxing event organizers is destroying the sport.
"There's a lot of money swirling around, but not enough to invest in grassservers boxing, to take care of retired fighters or those who've been injured.
Some of these hundreds of millions being invested could go to the British Boxing Board of Control and be used to care for fighters.
In a few weeks, I'll be speaking with Hearn and try to propose something. But, unfortunately, most people are greedy, most people are selfish.
I'm not lumping Eddie Hearn in with this, but promoters and leading fighters think only of themselves. And this is the sport we're involved in. I think it's destroying boxing," Froch stated.
Saudi Arabia hosted two major heavyweight tournaments in the spring of 2024. On March 8th, Anthony Joshua faced Francis Ngannou. On May 18th, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will battle for the status of undisputed champion.
