Warren on Parker vs. Wardley: “Nobody’s Avoiding Anybody”

Founder and head of Queensberry Promotions Frank Warren shared his thoughts on the planned Heavyweight showdown between interim WBO champion Joseph Parker and WBA interim titleholder Fabio Wardley.

We’re quite close to announcing a big fight, plus a few others. We’re talking about a lot of heavyweight shows we’re working on right now. Hopefully we’ll be ready to announce soon, and it should happen very soon, because we’re planning one of them for October.

This says a lot about them (Parker and Wardley), but that’s what happens in this division. Fighters face each other, nobody’s avoiding anyone. These kinds of fights happen, we make them, and the fighters themselves make them possible.

Everyone wants to see these fights, and we’re working very hard to make them happen,” said Warren.

Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) last fought in February against Martin Bakole, winning by second-round TKO. He was originally scheduled to meet Daniel Dubois, who withdrew due to illness.

Fabio Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs) scored a 10th-round knockout over Justis Huni in June, despite trailing on the scorecards at the time (88-83, 89-82, 89-82 for Huni).
