Promoter Frank Warren shared his thoughts on the future of 20-year-old British Heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma, and also commented on the possibility of a showdown with former World Champion Daniel Dubois.
“Daniel is only 27. All the fights are still ahead of him. He needs to rebuild, come back, and show what he’s capable of. And a fight with Moses in the future will be huge.
Filip Hrgovic or Jermaine Franklin as next opponents for Itauma? I think all those fights are good for him. We’re choosing the bouts that we believe are timely for his career.
I just want to find him an opponent who will be a step up. If it’s a step forward and he passes through them quickly — good luck to him. Of course, the real question is: how will he perform under pressure in a 12-round fight?
You’d be surprised how many fighters have turned down a fight with him, even for big money. Fighting Moses is a nightmare. Punches come from every angle. He’s got such an arsenal, and every shot has meaning — he always calculates the distance correctly.
I have to be honest: at his age, he’s probably one of the most talented fighters I’ve ever worked with. For boxing, it’s very important to have a Heavyweight like him. And it’s also important — and pleasing — that he’s British,” Warren said.
On August 16, Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) stopped Dillian Whyte in the first round by TKO.
In July, Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) was knocked out by Oleksandr Usyk in the fifth round of their Undisputed Heavyweight Championship clash.
