Founder and head of Queensberry Promotions, Frank Warren, responded to the video from his client—former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34–2–1, 24 KOs)—in which Fury announced the end of his professional boxing career.
“This is what he wanted to do and what he had to do. No one in the boxing world has the right to influence his decision or tell him what he should do. It’s entirely up to him and his talks with his family. He’s earned significant money and had a fantastic career.
He’s the best British heavyweight—one of the best, and at worst, he’s tied for first place among the most outstanding heavyweights of this century. He’s been in unforgettable fights, and he’s always been exciting and spectacular. Being around him, I’ve enjoyed every minute, and I hope the fans have too. I also hope he stays involved in boxing and keeps working in this field. He has contributed enormously to British and world boxing. I wish him a great retirement and all the joy in life.
Am I surprised by Tyson’s decision? I didn’t expect it tonight, but he made that choice. It’s his life. I know he was upset about the result of the last fight, but he can’t change it. Nothing will change what happened. That’s the reality. But I wish him the best. Be happy with what you’ve achieved. Think back to where you were before your second comeback, and look at everything you’ve done. You’ve got more reasons to be pleased than anyone,” Warren said.
