Background of the Fight

Robson Conceição gets a title shot for the fourth time in his career. The first was against Oscar Valdez. The Brazilian started well, outworking his opponent from a distance, but his activity dropped off. Valdez took that fight thanks to his relentless activity until the end. The second title shot was against Shakur Stevenson. Another good fight from Robson, posing many problems for the favorite. However, Stevenson proved to be more precise and skillful. The third title shot for Conceição was against Emanuel Navarrete. This fight was one of the best in 2023. Robson engaged in exchanges and looked excellent. The fight ended in a draw – meaning the Brazilian didn’t win the title, and Navarrete didn’t lose it. There was talk of a rematch, but the Mexican moved up to lightweight to fight Denis Berinchyk. After that draw, Conceição made a bright comeback, knocking out Jose Guardado Ortiz in the 7th round, showing that at 35, he is still in excellent physical shape. Now, for the fourth time in his career, he will go for a title shot. O'Shaquie Foster has also experienced a sports renaissance. From 2020 to 2022, he didn’t box at all, and upon returning to the ring, he became the best version of himself. Since his return, O'Shaquie has beaten four opponents, two of whom were undefeated (Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov and Rey Vargas). He also handled the very tough Eduardo Hernandez and Abraham Nova. The fight against Conceição will be Foster’s third WBC title defense.

Additional Fight Facts:

- This will be Foster’s first fight in Newark, USA. However, Conceição has already fought here against Shakur Stevenson, who will fight in the main event this evening. Newark is Shakur’s hometown. Conceição lost that fight by decision.

- Robson’s recent record isn’t the best: two wins (one by knockout), two losses, one draw, and one no-contest. However, the level of boxing Conceição demonstrates is very high.

Against Shakur and Valdez, Robson created many problems. The fight with Navarrete was close. And in the no-contest bout, the Brazilian dominated. That result was an unfortunate incident, not a pattern.

- Conceição (35 years old) is the oldest opponent Foster has faced in his recent fights. The closest in age was Miguel Roman (34 years old at the time of the fight).

- The same goes for Robson. Foster (30 years old) is the oldest among his recent opponents. Though Nicolas Polanco was 33 at the time of their fight, that bout was declared a no-contest and doesn’t count in the record.

- O'Shaquie hasn’t lost since 2016. In that time, he has beaten 12 opponents, 5 of them by knockout, and 4 of them were undefeated before facing him.
