Ex-lightweight king (up to 61.2 kg) Devin Haney shared insights on why the rematch with former three-division champ Vasiliy Lomachenko didn't materialize. "I pondered a rematch, sure. Discussed with dad and Top Rank about the potential look and payout of a second bout, but it didn't pan out," Haney admitted.
"It would've been a blockbuster, outshining our first. The initial fight had its share of debate, setting the stage for a grander rematch. Yet, the numbers didn't align," he added.
Haney's May 2023 clash with Lomachenko ended with judges favoring him (116-112, 115-113 twice). Lomachenko took a hiatus post-fight, eyeing a 2024 title fight against George Kambososos.
Haney has since vacated the lightweight belt. He's eyeing the WBC welterweight title (up to 63.5 kg) against champ Regis Prograis, slated for December 9.
