Fanmio Sues Ryan Garcia Over Canceled Bout with Anpo

Streaming platform Fanmio has filed a lawsuit against American boxer Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, accusing them of fraud and intentional interference with contractual relations.

The lawsuit revolves around the canceled exhibition bout between Garcia and Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo, which was scheduled for December 30, 2024, in Saitama, Japan. According to Fanmio, Garcia pulled out of the fight, citing a wrist injury, after the company refused to meet Golden Boy’s financial demands.

Fanmio claims to have spent over $1 million on promotion and estimates its lost profits at $10 million. The company is now seeking damages exceeding $75,000, along with interest and legal fees.

Although Garcia was suspended by the New York Athletic Commission for an anti-doping violation, this did not prevent him from fighting in Japan. Fanmio alleges that Garcia and Golden Boy never intended to go through with the fight and instead manipulated the situation for their own benefit.

Garcia is now scheduled to fight Rolando Romero on May 2 in Times Square, New York (USA).
