Ex-Joshua Trainer Names the Best Fight of the Current Heavyweight Generation

Robert McCracken, former trainer of ex-heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua, has shared his opinion on the best fight of the current generation in the heavyweight division.

"Fury and Usyk are elite, fantastic boxers. Fighters of their level are rare, especially in today’s era. The bout between them is truly the best this generation could offer.

It was a very close fight, and both are remarkable boxers," said McCracken.

The trainer also commented on Tyson Fury’s decision to retire from professional boxing:

"That’s Tyson’s choice. He has achieved so much in life and has been a phenomenal heavyweight. It’s up to him what he wants to do with his life. He has to decide whether to return to the ring or not.

A loss at the elite level, especially a close one, isn’t a big deal, honestly. Fighters competing at the highest level will always face situations where the result could go either way. Sometimes judges lean one way, even though it could have gone the other," McCracken added.

Tyson Fury announced his retirement on January 13, 2025, though doubts remain about the finality of his decision. Former champion and analyst Johnny Nelson, as well as active heavyweight Zhang Zhilei, have expressed skepticism about Fury’s retirement.
