In an interview with TalkSPORT, former coach of Anthony Joshua (27-3, 24 KOs) Angel Fernandez shared his expectations for the world heavyweight undisputed championship fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury (34-0-1, 24 KOs) and the holder of the WBO, WBA, IBO, and IBF titles Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs).
– Fury is naturally a great fighter, but I think Oleksandr will win. Oleksandr has a wonderful, very smart team, they will prepare him appropriately. I think it will not be as easy for Fury as it may seem on TV to catch Oleksandr, wrestle him, lean on him with all his weight, outjab him.
– How significantly will Fury's cut affect his preparation? Since he won't be able to spar during this time because the cut was very serious.
– Obviously, Oleksandr's team will take this into account, and they will try to hit exactly this spot to open it again. I think Tyson doesn't have enough time for such a cut to heal properly. Probably, Oleksandr will build his tactics with an emphasis on working specifically on this spot. If I were in his place, I would do the same. After all, a fight is a fight, and you always try to find your opponent's weaknesses and use it to win.
The fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will take place on May 18th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
