Ex-Coach Uncertain About Andy Ruiz's Status

Former coach of ex-heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2, 22 KOs), Manny Robles, shared insights on the fighter's current status and what he wishes to see in the continuation of his career.

"I haven’t talked to him or seen him in years. Honestly, I have no idea what Andy is up to.

But he needs to come back and take advantage of this opportunity that has been given to all the heavyweights. The chance to fight in Saudi Arabia and get into the mix when all these big champions in the heavyweight division are fighting each other.

A loss shouldn’t define a fighter’s career; I don’t think he should be judged by the Joshua loss. For someone like Deontay Wilder, who lost his second fight, it looks like he could be fighting Zhang," said Robles.

Andy Ruiz has not fought since 2022. In September that year, he won a decision against Luis Ortiz. Since then, there have been talks of a fight between the Mexican and Deontay Wilder, and about his potential contender bout. However, the Mexican has yet to have a named opponent for his next fight.
