Ex-Champion: "Garcia Deceived Us All"

Former world champion Daniel Jacobs shared his thoughts on Ryan Garcia's (25-1, 20 KOs) victory over WBC super lightweight (up to 63,5 kg) champion Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).

"I saw a very dedicated Ryan Garcia, a very strong and motivated boxer. He knew what he was going to do, you could tell from the first round. When he scored the first knockdown, I think that really set the tone for him, and let's understand, let's not dismiss Devin Haney—he's a great fighter, but I think Ryan was just a little bit better than him.

I believe that Ryan deceived us all by making us believe he was mentally unstable and that a lot was going on in his life. I think a lot of noise overshadowed what he was actually doing in the gym. He probably had a great camp.

I wasn't paying attention to the camps; I only saw what you all saw—those absurd things. Perhaps that was a defining factor in this particular fight, but it entertained me. I hope they can do it again so I can come back and see another wonderful fight.

I think they should do it again. I don't think it negates Devin Haney's talent and what he has achieved. I think he just needs to regroup, make some changes. He could learn something new to counter such a fast and powerful guy. But he did his best, and it was a very close fight for me, but obviously, the right guy won that night," said Jacobs.

On April 21, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney. Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion since Ryan did not make the weight limit and did not qualify for the title.
