IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. has responded to comments made by two-time undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk, who recently said it seemed to him that Conor Benn won their fight.
“I saw something where Usyk apparently said he thought Conor Benn won the fight. I don’t know if that’s true — it’s hard to believe he watched that fight and came away thinking Benn won, considering I landed twice as many punches. But people are telling me it’s accurate. If that’s really what he said, honestly, I might start rooting for Dubois.
It’s crazy — really shocking, to be honest. I’ve met Usyk a few times, and we’ve always had a good relationship. So I was surprised to hear that.
Daniel Dubois is on a roll — he just got a big win over Joshua. Usyk’s also on a great streak.I think the fight will come down to mental strength. In their first fight, both showed mental lapses — Usyk took a three-minute break after a body shot that some say was low, some say legal. But he took advantage of that break regardless. And Dubois folded under pressure after that. So in my opinion, it will come down to who holds up mentally,” said Eubank.
Eubank defeated Conor Benn by unanimous decision — all three judges scored it 116–112 in his favor.
