36-year-old IBO Middleweight Champion Chris Eubank Jr. insists he’s far from done with professional boxing.
“I’ve heard people say, ‘He’s 36, he’s accomplished so much, he had Fight of the Year — what more does he need? Maybe it’s time to retire?’
Why go through all this again? The truth is, I don’t have to. Financially, I’m set for life. So, there’s no need for me to step into the ring anymore.
But I still feel fresh. I still feel capable. I still have that hunger, that fire, that desire to wake up every day, train, become a better fighter, and perform for the fans. So retirement isn’t even on my mind. You guys are going to see me around for a while.
My dad talked to me, and I told him, ‘It’s not time yet, old man.’ He retired at 32, so he can’t understand how I’m still doing this at 36. I get it. But he’s not me. He doesn’t feel what I feel in the gym and in the ring,” said Eubank Jr.
On November 15, at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, Chris Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs) will face Conor Benn (23-1, 14 KOs) in a rematch. In their first encounter in April, Eubank won by unanimous decision.
