Trainer Robert Garcia Claims Errol Spence Has Alcohol Issues

Renowned American boxing coach Robert Garcia has expressed concern over Errol Spence Jr. and his alleged battle with alcohol, casting doubt on the former unified welterweight champion's potential return to the ring.

“Errol Spence has a drinking problem. He’s probably talked about it himself. I wish him the best—stay healthy, take care of your family. Life’s not easy.”

Garcia added that what once sounded like a joke may be closer to the truth:

“I joked on a podcast that when he fought Crawford, he’d been in a car crash, had vision issues, and maybe was even drinking. But maybe that wasn’t a joke at all.”

He even drew a parallel to Ryan Garcia, who admitted to drinking before his fight with Gervonta Davis.

“If Spence really has a drinking issue, I hope he recovers. He’s a great guy, a great family man. He doesn’t need to fight again—health comes first.”

Spence hasn't fought since his one-sided loss to Terence Crawford in July 2023.
