Head of Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn revealed when a potential showdown between former world champion Jaron Ennis and interim Super Welterweight titleholder Vergil Ortiz could take place.
“We’re targeting February. We’re targeting Las Vegas. That’s what we expect and hope will happen. I know that’s what DAZN expects.
A lot has been written about the Ortiz fight. Here’s the situation — myself, Oscar, Golden Boy, DAZN, we all sat in a room discussing the framework of an agreement we believed could work between us.
It was a very simple agreement for a fight that I think is one of the best in boxing. We left that room, and ‘Boots’ signed a multi-year extension with Matchroom on that basis. In that contract, the next fight is meant to be Ortiz. He signed the deal and committed to that fight.
I said this, and some people reported that the contract for Ennis–Ortiz was already signed. That’s not true, because I don’t know what Golden Boy and Vergil Ortiz have planned. Now when you talk to Rick Mirigian, he says: ‘We don’t have a contract.’
The plan in that room was this: Ennis fights October 11, Vergil Ortiz fights October 18, and then they fight each other. Done. That’s what we expect and hope happens. And for me, this is one of the best fights in the sport,” said Hearn.
Jaron Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) is set to fight on October 11, while Vergil Ortiz (23-0, 21 KOs) is scheduled for October 18. Their clash is being lined up for February 2026.
