"Interim" welterweight champion (up to 66,7 kg) Jaron Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) shared his thoughts on a potential fight against the holder of the WBA, WBC, and WBO titles in the same category, Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs).
"I wanted this fight. It wasn't so much sad as it was strange. I don't know what's going on. Boxing is an amazing game, but in the end, there's nothing you can do about it. You can't control it, so I'm not even going to try.
Undoubtedly, I am the toughest potential opponent for Crawford. I don't know how he plans to make the jump to super middleweight to fight Saul Alvarez. I don't see how he can jump over so many categories. There's no way. Canelo started at junior middleweight (up to 154 lbs) and he's not really a big guy.
It's definitely not what I wanted. There's nothing I can do. I couldn't say 'No,' I couldn't say 'Yes.' There's nothing I can do, but I will defend my belt and do what I need to," said Ennis.
Terence Crawford's next fight will be in the middleweight division against the WBA champion on August 3rd in Los Angeles, USA. In addition to Madrimov's belt, the "interim" WBO title will also be on the line.
Jaron Ennis last fought in July of the previous year against Roiman Villa (26-2, 24 KOs) and won by knockout. Recently, Matchroom Boxing won the bid for Ennis's fight against Cody Crowley (22-0, 9 KOs).
