Ennis Files Lawsuit Against NOW Boxing for Over $1 Million

IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) has officially filed a lawsuit against his former promotional agency after they failed to fulfill the obligation to organize him 14 fights over the 4-year agreement.

Ennis signed the agreement with NOW Boxing in 2019, according to which he was to have four fights in each of the first two years of the contract and three fights in each of the remaining two years. During this time, Ennis has only fought ten times and fought just three times since 2021.

In January 2023, Ennis won the IBF interim champion title in a fight against Karen Chukhadzhyan (23-2, 13 KOs) and defended the belt against Roiman Villa (26-2, 24-1 KOs) in July. Later that year, reigning champion Terence Crawford was stripped of the IBF world title, elevating Ennis to champion status. However, he remains dissatisfied with his former promoters.

The boxer is disappointed by his inactivity after the victory over Villa and the overall low activity after signing with NOW Boxing, leading to the lawsuit. He claims the deal was breached and demands contract termination and compensation exceeding $1 million.

"During the Agreement, the Plaintiff was ready, willing, and able to participate in the certain agreed number of fights and notified the Defendant of his readiness," the case states.

With the rift between Ennis and Now Boxing, rumors suggest Eddie Hearn might attempt to sign the American star to Matchroom Boxing. However, a clause in Ennis's agreement with Now Boxing, giving them the right to extend his contract now that he has become a world champion, could pose an obstacle.
