WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) has confirmed that renowned trainer Eddy Reynoso has declined to work with him.
Lopez on Reynoso’s Decision:
"There could be many reasons. Maybe it's a timing issue. Eddy Reynoso never spoke to my father—he just relayed the message through our team.
I don’t know if we did something wrong or if they’re just focused on themselves. Maybe they felt that an elite-level fighter like me needs more time than they can give.
Whatever the reason, it doesn’t make sense to me. We respect them, we love them. This isn’t the end of our story with them. Right now, though, they’re not looking around.
Am I disappointed? Yes. It hurts. But I take it as motivation. Honestly, it stings. I won’t lie to you. It hit me because I care. I love Canelo and his team, for real. But don’t play me—I’m the best fighter. I’m not going to beg or jump into another camp. We got here on our own. All I really asked for was to train alongside Canelo at the same time. I wasn’t there to spy—I came to learn.
Why couldn’t we make that happen? But it’s not Canelo’s fault—he’s focused on his fight. It’s not even Eddy’s fault. Maybe that’s just how things worked out.
But f***, I’m mad. I’m really mad."
Lopez shared these raw emotions in an interview with Punsh Drunk Boxing.
