Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn spoke about when a fight might take place between IBF Heavyweight champion Jai Opetaia and undisputed Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
"Jai Opetaia will definitely move up to Heavyweight — no doubt about it. But right now, it’s not the time. He needs to unify the belts, become the undisputed champion at Cruiserweight. That’s his legacy. He’s a fighter who has to unify the titles and become undisputed. Only then can he move up. If Jai becomes the undisputed champion at Cruiserweight, I think he can face Usyk. You understand what kind of fight that would be — the undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world against the undisputed Cruiserweight champion of the world" - said Hearn.
In June, 30-year-old Jai Opetaia (28-0, 22 KOs) knocked out Claudio Squeo in the fifth round. His next opponent will be Huseyin Cinkara.
In July, 38-year-old Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) scored a fifth-round knockout victory in his rematch against Daniel Dubois, reclaiming the undisputed Heavyweight championship of the world.
