Eddie Hearn Names the Biggest British Fight Following Fury’s Retirement

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has identified the biggest British fight to take place now that former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has retired.

Hearn believes this confrontation will be between his client, Conor Benn (23–0, 14 KOs), and IBO middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. (34–3, 25 KOs).

Late last night, at a hotel with Turki Alalshikh and Conor, we signed the contract for the fight. His Excellency announced it, I think, at 3 AM. Conor Benn vs. Chris Eubank Jr. — officially!

Two years after their first meeting. This will be one of the best fights you’ve ever seen, and given Tyson Fury’s retirement, it’s the biggest fight in British boxing.

It’s going to be a stadium fight, tickets will sell out instantly, and the preparation for the bout will be incredible. We know the history, we know their fathers’ legacies, but this is a fight between a young, hungry welterweight moving up to middleweight, and now everything has become very personal. Very personal. You’ll love the build-up, but you’ll love the fight even more. This is a real clash with a genuine conflict. I can’t wait,” Hearn said.

Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn had previously arranged a fight in October 2022, but it fell through due to Benn’s positive doping test. Since then, Benn has fought in the USA, where the suspension did not apply. The accusations against the Brit were dropped in November.

Eubank Jr. exchanged technical knockouts with Liam Smith in 2023 and returned to the ring in October with a victory over Kamil Szeremeta by TKO in the 7th round.
