Eddie Hearn Reveals What’s More Important for Jaron Ennis Than a Fight Against Teofimo

The head of Matchroom Boxing, Eddie Hearn, shared the future plans for his client, IBF welterweight champion Jaron Ennis (33-0, 29 KOs).

"A fight against Teofimo Lopez? Bob Arum said it’s a good fight, but Jaron still wants to unify the titles. So, if we can’t make the unification happen, he has the option of fighting Teofimo Lopez, or, if he moves up to junior middleweight, face Virgil Ortiz immediately.

Ennis really needs a big fight, and he wants it to be for unification. I can assure you that his next fight will either be for a title unification or something very significant. We need to make this happen.

I think the Teofimo Lopez fight is a great one. But for Ennis, it’s not about the money—he wants to unify the titles. That’s his absolute goal. So, when I approached him with the offer for Teofimo, he said, ‘That’s a cool fight, but I need to meet the champions.’ I replied, ‘I’ll make that happen, but this option is also on the table.’ His first priority is to exhaust all options with the champions, and if that doesn’t work out, I think Lopez is a great alternative.

Who are we negotiating with? We’re talking to Stanionis, negotiating with Barrios, but Brian Norman is refusing the fight. He wants something bigger than that."
