Matchroom Boxing head Eddie Hearn has announced that American boxer Jaron Ennis has extended his promotional contract and shared details regarding a fight with interim WBC Super Welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr.
“We’ve just signed a multi-fight, multi-year deal with Ennis. We held a meeting with Golden Boy and DAZN to discuss the terms for a fight with Vergil Ortiz. Jaron Ennis has already signed an agreement to face Vergil Ortiz, and we’re confident Vergil will also sign.
We’re planning to stage the fight in January or February next year, with both men having bouts in October in the meantime. As I’ve said, Ennis has signed for the fight with Ortiz, and you’ll see, in my opinion, one of the biggest fights in boxing,” said Hearn.
In April, Jaron Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) unified the WBA and IBF Welterweight titles by stopping Eimantas Stanionis, before vacating the belts to move up to the Super Welterweight division.
Vergil Ortiz Jr. (23-0, 21 KOs) last fought in February, defeating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision.
