Dubois does not claim to fight Usyk - details

The contender for the WBA super heavyweight belt, which is held by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois will miss about six months due to a ruptured cruciate ligament.

The Briton won by technical knockout over South African Kevin Lerena on December 3. In one of the rounds, Daniel unsuccessfully took a step back, which caused an injury.

"He was hit in the head, and when Daniel stepped back, he tore his cruciate ligament and lost his balance. He kept his cool, the coaches in the corner were great and helped him relax and calm down," said Barry McGuigan, DuBois' father.

The WBA has named WBA Regular heavyweight titleholder Dubois as the mandatory challenger to fight Usyk. Promoter Frank Warren said that the fight for the title of absolute world champion with Tyson Fury will be a priority for Usyk over the defense of one belt.

Usyk's promoter Oleksandr Krasiuk confirmed the order of the WBA title defense. In the event that the fight for the title of the absolute champion does not take place, Alexander should fight with DuBois, and not with the contender for the IBF belt, Filip Hrgovich.
