Don Charles, the coach of the British heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs), has hinted at the reality of a rematch against Joe Joyce (16-2, 15 KOs) and disclosed the condition under which it would take place.
"This is one of the fights. Frank Warren even mentioned it. If the guys keep winning, we will see this rematch.
Joe defeated Daniel, so we would like to avenge that loss. All great fighters go through something like this, and we want to make it happen. Lennox Lewis comes to mind; he was someone who avenged his defeats.
Look at Joe defeating Kash Ali and what Joseph Parker recently did. That's the state of affairs in the heavyweight division right now," Charles remarked.
Joyce and Dubois first faced off in November 2020. Daniel was ahead on the scorecards of two out of three judges but lost by a KO in the 10th round due to an eye injury that prevented him from continuing the fight.
Daniel Dubois' next likely opponent is set to be Filip Hrgovic on June 1, 2024. Following his knockout victory over Kash Ali, Joyce has yet to name his next opponent.
