Four-division champion, 41-year-old Nonito Donaire (42-8, 28 KOs) shared his thoughts on Ryan Garcia's (25-1, 20 KOs) victory over the WBC super lightweight champion (up to 140 lbs) Devin Haney (31-1, 15 KOs).
"I expected Haney to box a bit more, but personal issues and emotions interfered in this fight. Haney had one weakness – his defense. Ryan needed just that: for Haney to drop his hand, and he could strike.
I think next time Haney will come back stronger and learn from his mistakes. Congratulations to Ryan. We thought his mindset was on another level, but he did what he needed to do," said Donaire.
On April 21, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney. Despite the loss, Devin remains the WBC champion, as Ryan did not make the weight limit and was not eligible for the title.
