Manager Reveals When Whyte Will Return After Brutal Injury

Dillian Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs) is expected to return to the ring in late spring, following recovery from a severe finger injury that forced him to withdraw from his scheduled heavyweight clash with Joe Joyce (16-3, 15 KOs).

His manager, Mike Ofo, explained the nature of the injury in an interview with Platform Sport:

“He had an incident with dumbbells during training—he almost sliced his finger in half. The bone was visible. It looked pretty bad. His finger got caught between equipment, almost like a collision.

Dillian wanted to keep going, but sometimes you have to save these warriors from themselves and let them compete when they’re 100% ready.

He needs a few more weeks, and then he’ll be back in full training. Right now, he can’t even put on a glove. He’s just staying in shape until he can start punching again.

In about two months, Dillian will be back in fighting form. He already looks leaner and more focused—ready to continue building after his win over Christian Tetteh. The delay will be minor. Dillian will be ready to go again."

Ofo also added:

“He was devastated. But the fighter in him hid that. Still, it’s our responsibility as a team to look after him. There are ethical standards we must follow to ensure his safety.”

Whyte was originally scheduled to face Joyce on April 5, but pulled out due to the injury. He has since been replaced by Croatian contender Filip Hrgović.
