American promoter Lou Di Bella has expressed his astonishment at the title fight decisions slated for the March 30 event in Las Vegas.
"Why does nobody in boxing question why a fight for an interim title is being put on a show that features a fight for a vacant world championship in the same weight class and under the same organization?
It's simply laughable, complete nonsense. Let's just sell a few more belts," Di Bella remarked.
The event on March 30 in Las Vegas was initially set to feature a bout between Sergey Bogachuk (23-1, 23 KOs) and Sebastian Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) for the full WBC light middleweight title (up to 69.85 kg). However, following an injury to one of the main event participants, Keith Thurman, WBO light middleweight champion Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) was given Fundora as a replacement, and they will now compete for that very WBC full title.
Meanwhile, Bogachuk will be fighting for the WBC interim championship belt against Bryan Mendoza (22-3, 16 KOs).
