Ukrainian middleweight contender (up to 76.2 kg) Sergiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs) is eager for a rematch with Jaime Munguia (42-0, 33 KOs). Following Munguia's victory over John Ryder, Derevyanchenko was quoted saying:
"I'm one hundred percent up for it. I want a rematch. I don't know if Munguia wants it, maybe not. I don't know. I hope it happens. I feel the gratitude from people who considered our first match the 'Fight of the Year.' Being part of such a show was amazing because that's what boxing is all about. That's why people follow it.
"I'm happy to give people that feeling. I always step into the ring for that. Grateful to everyone who supported me at that moment," said Derevyanchenko.
The two fighters first met in the summer of 2023, where the Ukrainian lost by unanimous decision with scores of 115-112 and twice 114-113. Derevyanchenko suffered a knockdown in the 12th round.
The bout was recognized as the best of 2023 by the Boxing Scene website.
Since then, Derevyanchenko has not stepped into the ring, while Munguia secured victory over John Ryder in the 9th round.
