Former world champion and Golden Boy Promotions chief Oscar De La Hoya has named the fighter he believes would be the toughest test for undisputed Super Middleweight champion Terence Crawford.
“He beat ‘the guy,’ right? And what can you do after that? It’s going to be very hard for him to deal with the media, with the fans. Because any fighter he chooses next won’t be good enough. Because he already beat the top guy. I’m firmly convinced — and I know we’ve got Vergil Ortiz vs. Erickson Lubin coming up. I don’t like to dream too far ahead…
But if Vergil beats Lubin, what about Vergil against Crawford at Middleweight? Just imagine. That would be incredible. There’s a big chance Crawford stays at Super Middleweight, or more likely drops down to Middleweight. I don’t think he’ll fight at Super Welterweight. I think he’ll ultimately remain at Middleweight and look at the biggest fights. And the biggest fight for him is Vergil Ortiz,” De La Hoya said.
Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) defeated Saul Alvarez in his last fight, becoming an undisputed champion in a third weight division.
