Oscar Suggests Different Rematch for Ryan Instead of Haney

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya believes Ryan Garcia should not pursue a rematch with Devin Haney at this stage, despite previous plans hinging on both fighters winning their recent bouts.

I’m going to talk with Ryan. I’ve already spoken to him — he’s in great spirits. We’re looking forward to the future. Yes, we’ll figure out the plans and make them happen.

I think the right move for him would be to get revenge on Rolly. Speaking to you as a boxer, not just a promoter — that’s what I’d do. In boxing, you’re only as good as your last fight, so why not?

The situation with Haney doesn’t deserve a rematch. Devin actually lost despite winning. His stock has dropped significantly. Everyone’s talking about it. I’m just stating the facts — people are calling him a runner, not a fighter,” said De La Hoya.

On May 2 in Times Square, Haney defeated Jose Carlos Ramirez, while Garcia was beaten by Rolando “Rolly” Romero. A rematch between Ryan and Devin had been planned if both won — but the results shifted the conversation.
