"The Diva Era in Boxing" – Oscar De La Hoya Rips Canelo for Fighting Scull

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya has harshly criticized Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) for choosing to fight IBF super middleweight champion William Scull (23-0, 9 KOs) instead of facing WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs).

"You’re fighting William Scull? Seriously? What the hell?"

"You really said you don’t want to fight David Benavidez because ‘I don’t want to give him a big payday, he doesn’t deserve it because he talks s**t about me.’ What kind of nonsense is that? You’re supposed to build hype and drama so the fans enjoy the fight. But you refuse to fight a guy because he wasn’t respectful?"

"F**k off, Canelo. You personally created the ‘diva era’ in boxing. Other fighters are following your example, and it’s your fault that today’s generation is the softest and most money-hungry in history."

"Canelo, if you’re truly a superstar at your peak, then every opponent you face should become a star too."

The Canelo vs. Scull fight is scheduled for May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
