De La Hoya Responds to Devin Haney's Lawsuit Against Ryan Garcia

Oscar De La Hoya, founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions, commented on Devin Haney's (31-0, 15 KOs) lawsuit against his fighter Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs).

A few weeks ago, the Haney family filed a lawsuit in New York against my fighter Ryan Garcia for assault, fraud, and breach of contract. They also mentioned my company, Golden Boy Promotions, as they want a full accounting of Devin’s fight against Ryan. They want to see my financial reports.

They don’t believe that the Garcia-Haney fight sold just over 300,000 pay-per-views and that they received everything they were entitled to. They want more money, which simply isn’t there.

First of all, Bill, we live in the same elite neighborhood in Henderson. You could have just knocked on my door and asked to see the financial reports. We’ve explained to you multiple times that this fight didn’t sell. That’s a fact.

Secondly, you’re accusing Ryan Garcia of assault? You do realize that your son Devin is a professional fighter, and his job is to beat other opponents?

And now you, Bill, are saying that Ryan was on steroids during the fight. The traces of ostarine were so minimal that experts stated it didn’t matter and did not affect the outcome. The truth is simple: your son couldn’t block the left hook, couldn’t stay on his feet in those horrible angles he was carrying, and couldn’t handle Ryan Garcia,” said De La Hoya.

It’s worth noting that WBC’s interim champion in the super lightweight division, Devin Haney, has filed a lawsuit against former opponent Ryan Garcia. Devin has multiple accusations against his ex-rival: assault, fraud, and unjust enrichment. He also demands a review and correction of the financial accounting from their fight.

In April, Garcia won a decision against Haney, but the result of that fight was overturned due to Ryan failing a doping test, resulting in a one-year suspension for the boxer.
