De La Hoya: "I'm the Only One Who Can Make This Fight Happen"

Oscar De La Hoya, the founder and head of Golden Boy Promotions, shared his thoughts on a potential bout between WBC lightweight champion (up to 61.2 kg) Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 11 KOs) and William Zepeda (31-0, 27 KOs).

"I don't believe anyone can stop this fight. As Zepeda's promoter, I really want to make this fight happen. I believe Shakur is perhaps the best fighter in the world right now. He's very talented, but he needs to be able to sell tickets. His boxing style isn't as attractive to the public to ensure big ticket sales, but I'm confident that a fight between William Zepeda and Shakur Stevenson will be tremendous. It will happen... I think I'm the only one who can organize this fight, and I'll tell you one thing: I will make it happen," De La Hoya stated.

On July 6, William Zepeda knocked out Giovanni Cabrera in the 3rd round. On the same day, Shakur Stevenson defeated Artem Harutyunyan (12-2, 7 KOs) by unanimous decision.
