De La Hoya reveals more details on potential Canelo vs. Munguia fight

Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya shared his thoughts on the right time to arrange the showdown between WBC Silver champion in the second middleweight division (up to 76.2 kg) Jaime Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) and the absolute champion of the same category, Saul Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs), saying:

"Canelo Alvarez. This is the fight that needs to be arranged. We need to organize a bout with Canelo Alvarez in September. All of you, I hope, can push for this. Each of you can push for what we need – a Mexican showdown in September of this year. Just imagine that," said De La Hoya.

On January 27, Jaime Munguia defeated John Ryder by technical knockout in the 9th round. Canelo also fought against Ryder, winning by a decision in 2023.
