De La Hoya Reveals Where Canelo Will Go After Loss

Oscar De La Hoya, head of Golden Boy Promotions, shared his view on what the next move will be for former world champion Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez following his defeat to Terence Crawford.

“I think Canelo will try to choose a weaker opponent for his next fight.

Given the fact that he has such a lucrative contract with Turki Alalshikh, I don’t think Turki will allow that.

I don’t believe he’ll let Canelo fight an easy opponent, because Canelo gets paid big money. So he will demand that this money is justified. He will demand that Canelo fights the best.

I like Turki because he understands the principle of ‘the best fighting the best’,” said De La Hoya.

In the fall of 2025, Álvarez lost to Terence Crawford by decision. His next fight is likely to take place in 2026 due to an elbow injury that will require surgery.
