Golden Boy Promotions founder and CEO Oscar De La Hoya has announced that the anticipated bout between his fighter, WBC interim lightweight champion William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs), and reigning WBC titleholder Shakur Stevenson (23-0, 11 KOs) is officially off.
“After all the talk, Shakur Stevenson is pulling out of the fight with Zepeda,” De La Hoya wrote on Twitter.
Stevenson was quick to respond with a fiery message directed at the promoter:
“That’s what they told you? Turki Alalshikh made me certain promises, and now he’s backing out—sending his errand boys to pass along messages instead of being direct about what he’s trying to do. I don’t bow to anyone, Mr. De La Hoya. Now let’s make a real deal,” Stevenson fired back.
