WBC interim champion in the light heavyweight division, American David Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs), acknowledged the achievements of two-time undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) and shared whether he would be willing to face him in the ring.
"To be honest, first, I need to deal with the monsters in my own weight class. I don’t think I have enough experience for a fight with Usyk, I’ll be 100% honest. Never say never, maybe in the future, but right now, I’m focused on other things. Maybe in 5-6 years, but how old will he be, 40? Or even older.
I have a lot of respect for Usyk. He’s the best in history. If I get the chance to share the ring with him, I won’t turn it down, but it will be the toughest battle of my life," said Benavidez.
Benavidez’s next fight is scheduled for February 1 against David Morrell.
