David Benavidez to Become Official Contender for Canelo

American boxer David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) will officially become the contender for the WBC super middleweight title (up to 76.2 kg), currently held by Mexican Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (60-2-2, 39 KOs).

Benavidez currently holds the title of "interim" WBC champion in the super middleweight category. World Boxing Council (WBC) President Mauricio Sulaiman, in a statement to Pro Boxing Fans, announced that David would be appointed as the official challenger for a fight against Alvarez.

Previously, Canelo stated that he would be fighting on May 4th, and his opponent would not be a Mexican.
