WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) has revealed the two fighters he’s currently considering for his next bout.
“Right now we’re looking at a fight against Callum Smith or Anthony Yarde. Obviously, they’re two of the top guys in the division.
We’re planning to stage the fight in the U.S. That would bring me one step closer to facing guys like Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol, since I hold the interim WBA title and I’m also the WBC world champion.
If I beat Callum Smith, I’ll get the interim WBO title too.
So if after that they still don’t want to fight me — what are we even talking about?
I’m not saying anyone’s ducking me, but if you’re being offered the biggest purse of your career… and supposedly I’m an easy opponent — then why are you saying no?”
Benavidez made the comments during an interview on the Pound 4 Pound with Kamaru & Henry YouTube channel.
In February, Benavidez defeated David Morrell via unanimous decision, defending his interim WBC title.
In April, he was elevated to full WBC champion after Dmitry Bivol declined to defend the title.
