Russ Anber, cutman for Oleksandr Usyk and ambassador for Ready To Fight, shared his thoughts on the upcoming bout between the Ukrainian and Tyson Fury, and also commented on the Brit's weight loss and facial cut.
"Cuts appear where there weren't any before. You never know if it will open up. A clash of heads, an elbow, anything can cause it. I don't think it's likely to happen in any unusual way, that it would reopen while they're in the ring. It would take a headbutt, an elbow strike, a punch, or something else specific to cause that. It could happen in any fight, so I'm not sure it's a factor. If a cut happens – then it becomes a factor, but I think it has healed now, and it doesn't matter to me," Anber explained.
Regarding Fury's weight loss, Anber sees it as strategic. "It makes sense for him to be lighter. He wouldn't want to carry extra weight, additional baggage, which he might need in fights against Wilder or other more physical fighters. I think he understands that this will be a sprint from start to finish. And I think he wants to make sure he can keep up. He needs to be at a weight that allows him to keep up with a guy he refers to as a middleweight. I think he also wants to be somewhat of a middleweight himself. That makes sense," Anber remarked.
Fury and Usyk were initially scheduled to meet on February 17, but the fight was postponed to May 18 due to Fury's facial cut. Tyson has stated that the cut has healed and no longer concerns him.
