Crawford to Vacate Title and Change Weight Class: WBO Confirmation

WBO President Gustavo Olivieri has confirmed that Terence Crawford will vacate his WBO interim super welterweight title, as he will not be returning to the division.

“We have confirmed that Crawford will not return to the super welterweight division and will vacate his WBO interim champion title after the official announcement of his fight with Canelo. Therefore, his status as mandatory challenger becomes void.

I will recommend to the WBO Championship Committee to designate the No. 1 contender, Xander Zayas, as the new mandatory challenger in the division.

If appointed, the winner of Fundora vs. Booker will be required to defend the title against Zayas within 120 days of their bout to fulfill the mandatory defense obligations,” Olivieri stated.

Crawford still holds the WBA super welterweight title, but this latest move signals his official transition to a new weight class as he targets a historic clash with Canelo Álvarez.
