Crawford's Team Explains How Terence Will Handle Canelo

American welterweight champion (up to 66.7 kg) Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), who holds the WBA, WBC, and WBO titles, will move up a division on August 3 to face WBA junior middleweight titleholder (up to 69.9 kg) Israil Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KOs).

However, the boxing world is abuzz about another potential opponent for Crawford: Mexican undisputed super middleweight champion (up to 76.2 kg) Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs).

Terence's trainer, Brian McIntyre, welcomes the idea of a fight against Canelo but emphasized their current focus on the opponent from Uzbekistan.

"The main thing right now is Madrimov. He’s the one we are focused on. I know Terence is set on winning the junior middleweight title.

As for Canelo, if he comes onto our radar, I’m confident Terence will be ready to entertain that after the Madrimov fight. I wouldn’t mind that fight, and I know Terence wouldn’t mind fighting him either. But right now, the focus is on Madrimov," McIntyre told Fight Hub TV.

American lightweight prospect (up to 61.2 kg) Keyshawn Davis (11-0, 7 KOs), a close friend of Crawford, believes Terence has what it takes to move up in weight and stop the super middleweight king.

"I think they will fight, especially if Terence shows well against Madrimov.

After that, Crawford and Canelo will almost have to fight. They both will want it; it can't just be one person’s desire. When Terence proves himself at junior middleweight, Canelo should be ready.

Obviously, Canelo will have a size advantage, but size doesn’t determine everything in a fight.

You need more than just size, strength, and speed in the ring. You need a lot of things when it comes to fighting. I believe Crawford can definitely knock Canelo out, and if he does, it would be insane. If he knocks out Madrimov, that would be crazy too. Madrimov is a young, hungry lion who won’t give up," Davis told Fight Hub TV.
