American trainer Stephen Edwards shared his thoughts on the future of undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford.
According to him, the most beneficial option for Crawford’s next fight would be a bout against Britain’s Hamzah Sheeraz.
“From a marketing standpoint, the best option for Crawford right now is Hamzah Sheeraz. It’s very possible they’ll go in that direction. Look, Hamzah is an ambassador for Turki, plus British fans always bring insane support. On top of that, he just scored a great knockout win (against Edgar Berlanga).
I’m looking at this from a business perspective: Hamzah had a draw in a lower weight class with Carlos Adames. He’s a good fighter, but Terence is stronger. And Crawford might think: ‘This guy is beatable for me.’ So, he could agree to that option. Don’t forget, for him it’s all business now because his purses have gone up significantly,” Edwards said.
On September 13, Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) defeated Canelo Alvarez by unanimous decision and became the first undisputed champion in three weight divisions in the four-belt era.
In July, Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) knocked out Edgar Berlanga in the fifth round.
